Do you believe in coincidence? I really don’t. I believe more in “God-incidence” meaning that God weaves together incredible connections, opportunities and insights for us in ways that only He can.
I just experienced such a God-incidence. I was sick today so didn’t get around to writing a blog post early. In spite of how I’m feeling, I decided to sit down to write a blog post.
I had no idea what I was going to write about, so for inspiration I picked up a book (Content Rules) sitting on my desk. The specific words that came to my mind as I picked up the book were I’m looking for inspiration. When I opened the book, I was surprised when the word, I N S P I R E S jumped out at me.
Chapter 3 is titled, Insight Inspires Originality: Who Do You Want to Attract?.
The chapter talks about how content creation needs the same skill as journalism in that it focuses on the story you want to tell. All journalists know to ask who, what, where, why, when and how. With content creation, we begin with why.
Content Rules puts forth those questions in the following way as a demonstration of how we apply them to our content creation:
- Why are you creating the content you’re creating? (What are your goals?)
- Who is your audience? And who are you?
- What do you want the content to achieve?
- When and how are you going to develop the content?
- Where are you going to publish?
I think these are really great questions for all bloggers and other types of content creators to answer.
Have you considered these questions regarding your writing?
